Nurse Practitioner Council of Miami-Dade

Celebrating National Nurse Practitioner Week - 2020

Posted almost 5 years ago by Ana Paula Harwood

In celebration of Nurse Practitioners’ Week, The Miami Dade Nurse Practitioners Council wishes to thank all the Nurse Practitioners of Miami-Dade for your heartfelt work as well as the commitment and resilience that you demonstrate day in and day out!

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a daunting challenge for the entire country because of its rapid spread and inability to be contained, however the response of Nurse Practitioners, Physicians and Hospital Staff everywhere has been unprecedented, as we have all stretched to the limit to save lives and attend to the needs of patients.

Safety has,of course, been the No. 1 priority, and to that end, facilities across the country, has implemented new Telehealth platforms, which have been so well received that we will likely continue to rely upon them in some measure even after the pandemic is under control.

Notwithstanding all the challenges posed by Covid-19, Nurse Practitioners have made great strides this year in Florida, most notably with passing of the Autonomous APRN HB 607 Bill Practice Legislation that authorizes Nurse Practitioners in Primary Care to work autonomously, i.e. without physician supervision!  This new legislation now puts Florida on equal footing with many other states that have enacted similar legislation.

Finally, we also take this opportunity to announce that the Miami Dade Nurse Practitioners Council has joined the Nurse Practitioner Florida Coalition, an organization consisting of County-based Nurse Practitioner Councils throughout the State of Florida. This partnership will only strengthen the Miami-Dade Nurse Practitioner Council and will provide a stronger voice for all of South Florida’s Nurse Practitioners!
