You DO NOT have Independent practice status as of July 1--just because the law took effect on July 1. The newly formed council has not met and the rulemaking has not been completed. The Board of Nursing is inundated with calls with everyone thinking they can apply as of July 1. You can not! If you attempt to do anything independently you are out of your scope of practice and can be reported and potentially face disciplinary action. It has been a tremendous feat in Florida to get this far with IP and we do not want to ruin it. If you do not understand the new law then you need to read it, understand it, and practice as you have been until the new rules are sent out by the Board of Nursing after the Council meets.  Every APRN in the state will be notified once this process is completed.

Not every APRN belongs to an organization where they receive information so I would ask that all of you please educate your APRN colleagues on these new laws. It is up to all of us to educate all APRN's in the state and we need to have everyone's voice to do so. If they do not belong to their local and/or state organization then recommend they join so they are up to date on the information.

For questions please reach out to me at vsgalearnp@comcast.net. I will try to answer your questions regarding HB607 to the best of my ability at this point.
